I can’t afford to spend money at the moment but I want to support small businesses. What is the best way I can do this?
COVID-19 has changed the way that a lot of small businesses run. We’ve unfortunately watched many beautiful small businesses close their doors. And we won’t lie, this is still very much a possibility for us too – a very, very scary one.
We’ve been lucky that the Australian and Queensland Governments have provided financial support to make sure that businesses like ours could stay afloat. But sometimes, that’s not enough.
So, what’s the best way that you can support a small business like ours?
- Follow, like, comment and share our social media posts
This is an easy step that could affect a small business owner in SO many different ways. It could change the algorithm on apps like Instagram so that more people can reach the account, it helps business owners connect with their communities or it could honestly just make someone’s day.
- Spread the word!
This can be done by simply tagging your friends and family on a social media post, tagging a small business in your post, sharing and inviting others to check out the account/website or spreading the word… in person!
- Refer them
Your friend is looking for a gift for their mum… but they can’t decide! What a perfect opportunity to refer them to a small business that you want to support!
- Leave a review or send a personal message with a review!
If you’ve made a purchase from the small business before or you’ve had a positive experience with them, leave a review on Google, Facebook, etc. This not only improves the reputation of the small business but it also builds trust between a new customer/client and the business.
- Make a purchase, when you can
For small businesses, every cent counts. With JobKeeper ending at the end of March 2021 for Australian small businesses, time is of the essence. You don’t have to make a large purchase. Lots of small businesses have vouchers and gift cards that you can purchase and use at a later date too.
Times have been tough on small businesses. Let’s support them where we can!
