Opals are known to be good luck charms, but what makes them a ‘good luck charm’?
If you have stepped into our store front before, then you might have recognised the large Boulder Opal that we had at the front of the store. We often referred to it as our ‘lucky rock’.
Oftentimes people would rub the Boulder Opal and make a wish. The rumour is that a miner once touched that piece of Boulder Opal and now he’s a millionaire. As ridiculous as it might sound, it truly felt like it had some magic within the stone whenever you touched it.
Opals are known to represent love – which is why they are popular as engagement rings; and luck – which is why Opals are given for special events like birthdays and new babies. Traditionally, Opals were seen as a good luck charm as it contained a range of colours like the ones in many different types of gemstones.
Opals appear on a number of Aboriginal Dreamtime stories and they often associate rainbows and the creation of land with this beautiful gemstone.
So, are Opals good luck charms? We think so, but why not find out for yourself?
