When in Tokyo…

We have always had strong business and personal connections with Japan; and Tokyo was one of the places we worked closely with.

I was always excited to work with the country I was born and raised in. There was immense pride in the country that I grew up in, but also immense pride in what I was doing as a profession. I would never miss a chance to continue to build our connections and share our love for Australian Opals.

For many years we had the opportunities to work with the Australian Embassy in Tokyo. We hosted Opal exhibitions where many VIPs like politicians and famous people could attend, explore and make purchases.

It was amazing to see how incredibly popular and successful these exhibitions became in such little time. If you have a look at the image on this blog post, you’ll be able to see that our exhibitions were very full. Luckily social distancing wasn’t necessary back then… could you imagine!

We were able to start this while we were operating as Bentine Gems and were able to continue our ‘tradition’ (it became a tradition after all!) when we changed our business to Opal Gallery.

Being able to share the beauty of Australia’s national gemstone was so special. To this day, it is a memory that I hold very close to my heart. Plus, it wasn’t really ‘everyday’ that any of us could work with such high profile customers in Japan, but we did it every year for many years!
