FAQs

Rhodium is a metal with excellent heat resistance and high resistance to wear and discoloration.
Silver oxidizes and turn black,There fore Rhogium Plating is used to prevwnt oxidation. and It ’s a very hard metal, so it ’s also used to prevent scratches for white gold as well.

I can’t judge without looking at it, but in general, I think it can happen to volcanic opals.
Such as Ethiopia’s hydrofin opal is porous, so the colour may come off due to drying etc.
Sedimentary Australian opals basically do not change colour by those conditions.

Please see the list, it is also recommended to see your local jeweller to check your size.

First, let’s narrow down the options to three different Opal pieces. Don’t forget to think about things like your budget and style. There is nothing more disappointing than having your eye on something and realising that it’s out of your budget, right?

Then let’s have a think about when you want to wear or use this Opal piece, how you plan on wearing it and what you would like in 10 years time. Black Opals in particular are great investment gemstones due to the fact that the production of Black Opals may end sooner than we think.

After all of this , you may reach some sort of decision. But if you are still wondering, consider the most expensive one. Why? Because you have the option to keep the piece as an investment item or an heirloom. Plus, you deserve it!

If you’re still not sure, try imagining the piece in 20 years time. My tip for you is to choose the Opal, not the design. You can change the design but the Opal cannot be changed.

The price of gemstones is simply higher if it is high in demand and/or rare. Black Opal is more expensive than other types of Opal for this reason.
For example, White Opal, which is popular but can be obtained in large quantities, is sold at a reasonable price.
It is also said that for every 10,000 White Opals that are mined, only one Black opal will be mined.

The seven types of gemstones of the world that are considered most precious are Opal, Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Jade and Pearl.
These are the types of gemstones that you should have in your jewellery collection.
Did you know that Australia mines all of these?

Over 100 million years ago, Australia was once apart of the Gondwana – a supercontinent that included Africa, South America, the Indian peninsula, Antarctica and Australia.

When the Gondwana broke away into the separate continents that we have today, much of Australia’s land was initially covered by a vast inland sea known as the Eromanga Sea. As the sea began to subside over millions of years, a large amount of silica from the sea was released into the groundwater. This silica-rich groundwater then filled the cracks in rocks, layers in clay, and even some fossils. The pressure of the rocks trapped the silica and water, slowly hardening into gels and forming precious opals.

This unique geological process, combined with Australia’s perfect climate conditions is the reason why 95% of the world’s supply of opals come from Australia.

For everyday care, opals should be polished gently with a soft, dry cloth.

You must avoid cleaning with an ultrasonic cleaner as the intense vibrations may cause solid opals to crack.

Solid Australian Opals
When cleaning Australian opals, place the opal in water with a mild detergent and use a soft brush or cloth to gently clean. Let the Opal sit and dry. Do not use heat to dry as the sudden heat change can cause Opals to crack.

Hydrophane Opals
When handling Mexican and Ethiopian or hydrophane opals, avoid cleaning with any sort of liquid that contains chemicals or other substances. As hydrophane opals are porous stones, the opal will soak up the chemicals from the liquid and may not be able to regain its original colour once dried.

Doublet or triplet Opals
Only clean with a damp or dry, soft cloth. Do not soak your doublet or triplet Opals in water as prolonged exposure to water can cause lifting between the layers and glue.

With any opal, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat or sunlight. These gemstones contain a very small percentage of water and extreme heat may cause the opal to crack or break.

When storing your opal, simply place it in a jewellery box and ensure that it is carefully separated from other jewellery pieces. Take care when handling the jewellery box.
